This house in Mt Albert had views of the harbour and a very generous front lawn which is a heritage character preserved for this part of the city.

The existing kitchen occupied a small corner of the house islolated from the rest of the living spaces.

Our brief called for a new kitchen that would become the hub of the house.  It would be a space that would accommodate extended family and lots of friends.

We had an early instinct to bring in the rear garden both visually and spatially, allowing the greenery to be part of the living space.

​

Out clients loved the idea of a cathedral ceiling and we introduced the wood species Ashin to clad the ceiling further enhancing the  link to the outdoors and mirroring the existing Matai floors.

​

The end result is fresh and different from the front of the house. It suits the clients appreciation for a clean minimal aesthetic but most of all its suits their love for entertaining and bringing people together.
